The Boyfriend

Evoking the wild days of carefree flappers and the Charleston , “The Boyfriend” drew huge West End and Broadway audiences when it opened in 1954, all nostalgic for the apparent simplicity of the Twenties.  Sandy Wilson’s wonderful score rangers from foot-tappers like “Won’t you Charleston With Me” to tender ballads like “I Could be Happy With You”, “A Room in Bloomsbury ” and, of course, “The Boyfriend”.  Above all, a simple tale of boy meets girl is given the sort of verve and excitement that has proved utterly irresistible over the years.

West Side Story

“Simply the best of all musicals” said The Observer when West Side Story burst into electrifying dynamic life over forty years ago.  Since then millions of people have agreed and flocked to this 1950s New York Romeo and Juliet type story with rival street gangs – the Jets and the Sharks – hindering and ultimately destroying the love of a boy and girl.

The songs (lyrics Stephen Sondheim) have become all timeless classics,  the music (by Leonard Bernstein) has been played in symphony concerts, the whole show revived many times and hugely praised in a film version.

This show was last performed at the KMT in 1979.  Ever since then the show has been unavailable because of  national tours or West End revivals.  This is a very special event at the KMT – and a show you must not miss!  We are staging extra performances to meet the demand for tickets – but we’re still expecting a very quick sell-out – so BOOK EARLY!

Caligula

The young Caligula showed all the signs of becoming a very great ruler, but when he became Emperor of Rome and assumed absolute power, everything changed.  Was it grief over his sister’s death that made him lose his senses?  Or does absolute power corrupt absolutely?  Debauchery, violence,  even lunacy made him a prime candidate for assassination.  This gripping drama by Albert Camus is not suitable for children.
