THE BEST OF TIMES

The team that brought you "Five Guys Named Moe" was looking around for something to follow that show. Where else could they find such a collection of great songs? Jerry Herman – of course! This year is his 70th birthday, the man who wrote the songs for Hello Dolly, Mack and Mabel, Dear World, La Cage aux Folles, Mame etc. When this tribute show "The Best of Times" played the West End, Time Out said "Revue musicals don’t come better than this!". A toe-tapping treat!

A STREET PARTY FOR THE QUEEN (From 11am to 5.30pm)

Well, not exactly in the Street, since we can’t really expect to close Oakfield Road on a Saturday. BUT we are planning an open-air party outside the theatre with street entertainment, and an "open house" inside the KMT, with non-stop entertainment, regular laser-shows, backstage visits, join-in events aimed at all the family. And it’s all FREE! This is a Jubilee Treat for our regular customers and hopefully will encourage a few "first-timers" to pop in and see the kind of fun that is always on offer at the KMT.

Further details will be available nearer the time.

Thurs 13th - Sat 15th June 2002

I NEVER SANG FOR MY FATHER

How do we deal with the problems of relationships with our parents as we move into later life? This play explores some of these issues with wit, humour, compassion, sensitivity, and above all, honesty. Robert Anderson’s play is an absorbing, touching, entertaining and exciting evening of complete theatre.

DAVID COPPERFIELD

In Charles Dickens’ "David Copperfield" adapted for the stage by Matthew Francis, we follow the adventures of our famous hero through an abundance of familiar characters from Dickens’ original novel. The unpleasant characters of Murdstone, David’s vicious, bullying stepfather, Creakle, the sadistic headmaster, and the ever so ‘umble Uriah Heap are balanced against those well-loved characters of the endearing Peggotys, Aunt Betsey, and Mr Dick. And, of course, Mr Micawber, for whom something will undoubtedly turn up!

Another Op’nin’, Another Show! This year’s Number One musical, and you can see it at the KMT. A travelling theatre company is performing the musical of "The Taming of the Shrew" at the Ford Theater, Baltimore. The director and leading actor, Fred Graham, has cast his ex-wife, Lilli Vanessi, as the leading lady, and the show centres on their love-hate relationship both onstage and off. Sparks fly in the battle of the sexes. Cole Porter’s score is one of the greatest, with such glorious songs as "Wunderbar", "So in Love", "I Hate Men" and the undeniable showstopper, "Brush Up Your Shakespeare".

The story deepens as one of them goes downhill in her health, and many years’ worth of stored truths are suddenly shared between six extraordinary characters. They share each others’ laughter and dry each others’ tears in this smash-hit play which became a hugely successful film starring Julia Roberts, Shirley MacLaine and Dolly Parton.

ELSIE AND NORM'S MACBETH

Elsie and Norm decide to go for a bit of culture and stage some Shakespeare in their living room. Of course, it needs a bit of re-writing to liven it up a bit and it’s a bit of a push playing all those characters with just the two of them – BUT it’s worth it for one of the greatest pieces of literature what has ever been wrote in the English language.
