HAIR

Before Jesus Christ Superstar, before Tommy, and long before Rent, there was Hair, the original rock musical and a defining point of a generation. Celebrating it's 40th anniversary Hair still packs a powerful punch. The year is 1967 and  America is in its fourth year of involvement in Vietnam. The musical follows the lives of  "The Tribe", a group of politically active friends fighting against social injustice and  for what they believe.  When the men of "The Tribe" receive their draft notice they, reluctantly, face up to the realities of life, and death!  With an outstanding and joyous score that produced numerous hits including Let the Sun Shine In, I Got Life, Good Morning Starshine and Aquarius, Hair led the 60’s revolution and is as relevant today as never before.  If there was ever another time for Hair, it is now!

Please Note - Hair contains adult themes, strong language and scenes of nudity.

There will be some cigarette smoking (as permitted under the provisions of special exemption for artistic authenticity).

A comedy by Jeremy Lloyd and David Croft

Listen very carefully. . . we shall say this only once!  Following their successful production of “Dad’s Army” last year, WOADS are once again re-visiting World War 2 as portrayed in classic British sit-com.  This is the tale of René, the hapless café owner in war-torn occupied France, as he and his wife Edith struggle to keep for themselves a priceless portrait of the Fallen Madonna (with the big you-know-whats).  This portrait was stolen from the Nazis and kept hidden in a sausage in the cellar!

IMPROBABLE FICTION

“If this were played upon a stage now, I could condemn it as an improbable fiction” (Twelfth Night)

Alan Ayckbourn's latest hilarious comedy features one of his most daring ideas yet. Six aspiring yet, truthfully, hopeless authors meet to discuss their work. Among them are writers of historical romances and children’s literature who are finding it difficult to start writing, and a crime writer who can’t stop. A creator of extremely complicated science fiction, a librettist without a musical partner and the chairman, who can only produce tedious instruction booklets, make up the rest of the team. This ill assorted bunch find themselves at a loss as to how to proceed until mysteriously they find themselves entering the worlds of their own creation. Sharp comedy and affectionate satire characterize this zany, imaginative play which celebrates the enduring power of storytelling from one of the theatre’s most inventive storytellers.
