THE WIZ

 “Ease on Down” the Yellow Brick Road with Dorothy and her friends – the Scarecrow, Tin Man and Lion – in this exuberant adaptation of the classic Oz adventure.  With a score that mixes rock, soul and gospel, and witty dialogue, this hugely entertaining show is fun for all the family!

IT'S SWING FEVER

Dave Shepherd, Britain’s number one jazz clarinettist, Chris Walker, jazz broadcaster/bandleader on saxophones and clarinet, and a “hot” all-star rhythm section (which also provides some nice vocals) take a fond look back at the glorious music and songs from the 1930s through the swing era, with the tunes of Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, Jimmy Dorsey, Artie Shaw and others.  Special guest is Jack Emblow, playing some fantastic swing and accordion, in a show which offers an excellent musical contrast to our big band programme for this year.

MURDER FOR THE ASKING

Henry Scrubb has been out of work for months and is desperate for money.  He replies to a  newspaper advert offering a “big financial reward” only to discover that the advertiser, Mr Franklyn, is looking for someone to commit a murder. Naturally Henry refuses.  But then the murder happens, and Henry is in trouble – up to his neck!

ANYTHING GOES

Cole Porter’s sensational 1930s musical became the hit of 2002 when an updated revival was staged at the Royal National Theatre.  Set aboard the luxury “SS America” this glorious extravaganza contains a lovesick stowaway,a beautiful deb and her mother, a lecherous tycoon, a bumbling gangster disguised as a priest, an English milord, a brassy evangelist and a shipload of tap-dancing sailors and high-kicking chorus girls,  Add hit songs like “I Get a Kick out Of You”, “You’re the Tops”, “It’s De-Lovely” and  “Blow, Gabriel, Blow” and the famous title song – and how could you possibly stay away?

SUMMER THEATRE COURSE

Five days of intensive theatre work, starting with auditions and then moving on to vocal tuition, movement rehearsals, dialogue coaching and rehearsal techniques – this is an intensive course for young people seriously interested in theatre.  The course culminates in a staged performance.  Course tutors are a team of professionally qualified and experienced teachers.

Junior Course:

Monday to Saturday 10am – 2pm (Age group 7 – 12 years)

Senior Course:

Monday to Saturday 2.30pm – 6.30pm (Age group : 13 years upwards)

Places will be limited according to numbers.  Course fee: £65 per student

CURTAIN UP ON MURDER

A “backstage” thriller by Bettine Manktelow.  A rehearsal is in progress in a theatre at the end of a pier.  Outside a storm is raging.  Inside the actors discover all the doors have been locked.  They are trapped – and there is a murderer in their midst!
