COMEDIANS
Before “The Full Monty” there was
Trevor Griffiths’ 1975 West End and Tony Award winning
“Comedians”. Six aspiring comedians in working-class
Manchester, all aiming for the big time, and all taking lessons
from a former comic turned teacher. Truthful, complex,
poignant, heartbreaking and very funny by turns, this is a truly
gripping play. First seen in London at the National Theatre with
Jimmy Jewel and then on Broadway, where it launched the career
of Jonathan Pryce, this is the first time it has been staged at
the KMT.
(Please note this play contains some
strong language and is NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN)

DAMES AT
SEA
Dick, a young songwriter, is having
difficulties with his new show: the temperamental leading lady,
Mona, is causing problems, and Dick himself is falling in love
with the new chorus girl, Ruby. To add to the problems, the
opening night is cancelled when the theatre is condemned and
demolished. What to do? Well, Dick, who happens also to be a
sailor, arranges for the show to be performed on board the
battleship on which he serves. Then Mona has an accident. Ruby
goes on the deck a chorus girl, but comes off a star!
Yes – an affectionate spoof of all
those Busby Berkeley/Ruby Keeler/Dick Powell films of the 1930s
– “Dames at Sea” is a nostalgic all-singing, all-dancing musical
delight from start to finish.

REBECCA
“Last night I dreamed I went to
Manderley again” – no one seeing Hitchcock’s 1940 film version
of “Rebecca” is ever likely to forget that celebrated opening
phrase. Nor are they likely to have forgotten the haunting and
haunted story of Manderley where the shadow of the first Mrs de
Winter falls evilly on her successor, and the malignant presence
of Mrs Danvers threatens her very life.
